HISTORY OF DISC

DISC Behavioural Profiling - William Marston

The history of DISC Behavioural Profiling dates back to the early 20th century when psychologist William Moulton Marston developed the DISC theory. Marston, known for his work in psychology and his creation of the comic book character Wonder Woman, was interested in understanding human behaviour and emotions.

In 1928, Marston published his book "Emotions of Normal People," where he introduced the DISC theory. DISC stands for Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness, which are four primary behavioural traits that he identified in people. According to Marston, individuals exhibit varying degrees of these traits, which influence their behaviour, communication style and interactions with others.

Marston's DISC theory laid the groundwork for the development of behavioural profiling tools aimed at helping individuals understand themselves and improve their interpersonal relationships. However, it wasn't until the latter half of the 20th century that DISC Profiling gained widespread recognition and use in various fields, including business, education and personal development.

NATURAL & ADAPTED DISC STYLES

Your Natural DISC Style indicates the intensity of your instinctive behaviours and motivators. It is often a better indicator of the 'real you' and your 'reflex', involuntary behaviours in most relationships. This is how you act when you feel most comfortable with those closest to you and are not attempting to impress anyone by self-modifying your behaviour. Your 'Natural Style' is what you tend to show when you're feeling stressed or under pressure.

Your Adapted DISC Style reflects a perception of the sort of behavioural tendencies you think you should use in your selected relationship. This graph is more susceptible to change in different relationships or situations. For example, your Adapted DISC Style may differ when comparing your 'Adapted Style' in the workplace to your 'Natural Style' with close friends and family members.

HISTORY OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

Emotional Intelligence - Daniel Goleman

The history of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is a fascinating journey that intertwines psychological research, social understanding, and practical application. While the term "emotional intelligence" became widely popularized in the 1990s, its roots can be traced back to ancient philosophical traditions and early psychological theories.

The concept of emotional intelligence finds its earliest roots in ancient philosophical traditions, particularly in the works of thinkers such as Aristotle, who emphasized the importance of understanding and managing one's emotions for personal well-being and social harmony.

The term gained widespread recognition with the publication of Daniel Goleman's bestselling book "Emotional Intelligence" in 1995. Goleman synthesized existing research from psychology, neuroscience, and biology to argue that emotional intelligence was as important as traditional cognitive intelligence for success in various aspects of life.
